Gary Reed's Thoughts and Notes on Ghost Sonata
I was always a fan of August Strindberg's work and loved the complexity of Ghost Sonata.  In doing an adaptation of it, I knew it had to be updated but unfortunately, I didn't think it through well enough.  I started to adapt it and as I went on, start pulling further and further away.  So much so, that I had to put in a whole new introduction.  I played up the supernatural part of the lead character having the ability to sense things about people and yet, when the most crucial time came, he failed to sense the correct attitude of his lover and of course, himself.  It is rather a disheartening drama with a bittersweet ending.  Overall, I was happy with it and I am toying with doing it as a play or film script or perhaps as one friend suggested, a short novella.  I believe this was the first major work for Andy Bennett who has gone onto other things.    He was great to work with and he was someone I could count on to convey what I wanted to convey and still add his own elements.  He wasn"t very commercial then but I appreciated him. After all, I also used him on some later issues of Saint Germaine which he also did a good job on.
